Syncing passwords
Sync passwords that you’ve saved in Yandex Browser on your computers, smartphones, and tablets. During the syncing process, an encrypted copy of your password repository gets sent to the Yandex server and then passed on to your other synced devices. Passwords from your other devices also get added to the repository on your current tablet.
Advantages of password syncing
- Your saved passwords will be used for autofill in login forms on all your devices.
- If your tablet breaks, you can recover your passwords from the server.
Tip
Create a master password to ensure that nobody (including Yandex) can decrypt your passwords.
Disable or enable syncing
Password syncing is enabled automatically when the syncing option is enabled. If you disable syncing, password syncing will also stop.
To only disable password syncing:
-
Tap
→ Settings → Syncing.
-
Disable the Passwords option.
Password syncing conflict
A conflict may arise if you’ve entered two different master passwords on two devices and then synced them. Yandex Browser won’t know which master password to use to encrypt the merged password vault.
To resolve the conflict:
-
Tap
-
Select Passwords.
-
Tap Passwords are not syncing.
-
Enter the master password created on this tablet.
-
A list of devices on which storage is protected by other master passwords appears. If you don’t remember all the master passwords, go to step 5. If you remember all of them, go to step 6.
-
Passwords from devices for which you've forgotten the master password cannot be added to merged storage.
- If you have a recovery key set up on the device, reset your master password on the device and replace it with the master password for your current tablet. Wait for the device data to sync.
- If you don’t have a recovery key, you will have to delete passwords from the device. To do so, tap the
icon to the right of the device name.
- If you do not resolve the syncing conflict, all data (such as history and bookmarks) except passwords will be synced.
-
When you're sure that you remember the master password for all the remaining devices in the list, tap Merge with passwords on this device.
-
Enter the master password from each device.
-
After merging, tap OK in the window that opens.
Passwords from all devices remaining on the list will be merged. The vault will be encrypted with the master password created on the current tablet.
The same kind of conflict may arise if you have created a master password on a tablet and synced it, but then reinstalled Yandex Browser on this tablet and created another master password on this device. In this case, merge the two password vaults. Yandex Browser will display your old password vault from your current tablet as if it were stored on a separate device.
