# Export data

There are several ways to keep your data when reinstalling the OS or transfer this data to [Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) on another computer.

## Through managing Yandex Browser data {#sync}

{% note alert %}

If there are multiple profiles in your Yandex Browser, [make sure](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md) you're logged in to your profile before transferring data. Otherwise, you might accidentally share your data (including passwords) with the owner of the profile that is active during the transfer.

{% endnote %}

You can save information to your account to access your data across all your devices and recover it when reinstalling your OS. When transferring your data, it is sent to the Yandex server via a secure channel. Passwords are stored in [encrypted format](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#passwords-crypt). The data on the server is protected by the authorization system.

You can transfer the following data:

- [Tableau](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/tableau.md).

- [Bookmarks](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/favourites/izbrannoe-search.md).

- [Passwords](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords.md) and cards.

- [Autofill data](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/autofill.md).

- [History](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/search-and-browse/history.md).

- Tabs in **Other devices**.

- [Window tabs and tab groups](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/search-and-browse/groupoftabs.md).

- [Extensions](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/extension.md).

- Settings.

{% list tabs %}

- Reinstalling the OS

  1. [Log in with Yandex ID](https://yandex.com/support/id/en/authorization/registration.html) and [enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on).

  1. Select the data you want to save to your account:

      1. Click your profile picture ![Profile picture](../_image/profile-icon.svg) → **My profile in Yandex Browser** → **Manage data**.

      1. Choose which data to save by enabling the corresponding options.

  1. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

  1. After uploading the data to the server, [disable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#off) to avoid possible failures when reinstalling the system.

  1. Reinstall the OS and [install](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/about/install.md) Yandex Browser.

  1. [Enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on) while making sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.

  {% note info %}

  However, you will have to [restore](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/tableau.md#synch-tableau) Tableau manually. Tabs will not be restored as they were either, but you can [access](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/navigation/about.md#look) them on the **Other devices** tab.

  {% endnote %}

- New device

  1. On your old device, [log in with Yandex ID](https://yandex.com/support/id/en/authorization/registration.html) and [enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on).

  1. Select the data you want to save to your account:

      1. Click your profile picture ![Profile picture](../_image/profile-icon.svg) → **My profile in Yandex Browser** → **Manage data**.

      1. Turn on options to sync the data you need.

  1. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

  1. [Install](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/about/install.md) Yandex Browser on your new device.

  1. [Enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on) while making sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.

  {% note info %}

  {% endnote %}

- Another Yandex account

  {% note tip %}

  If you use two Yandex IDs at the same time, we recommend creating a [separate profile](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md#q1) for your second account.

  {% endnote %}

  To transfer saved data from one Yandex ID to another:

  1. [Log in with Yandex ID](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md) to the account you want to transfer data from, and [enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on).

  1. Wait until your data is downloaded from the server to your profile in Yandex Browser. The download can take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data.

  1. [Disable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#off) for this Yandex ID.

  1. [Log in with Yandex ID](https://yandex.com/support/id/en/authorization/registration.html) to the account you want to transfer data to, and [enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on).

  1. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

  {% cut "Delete data from your old Yandex ID" %}

  1. If you have data sync enabled, [disable](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#off) it.

  2. [Log in with Yandex ID](https://yandex.com/support/id/en/authorization/registration.html) to the account you want to delete data from, and [enable data sync](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#on).

  3. [Delete](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/device/sync.md#delete) saved data.

  {% endcut %}

{% endlist %}

## Via your personal profile {#profile}

{% note alert %}

You can't move passwords, extensions, and settings using this method. For this reason, it's better to transfer your data through [managing data](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/transfer.md#sync).

{% endnote %}

Your personal set of settings and data is stored locally on your computer in your [personal profile](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md). The profile is created automatically when Yandex Browser is installed. You can copy your profile to a new device or a reinstalled OS.

Data stored in your profile includes the following:

- [Passwords](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords.md).

- [Bookmarks](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/favourites/izbrannoe-search.md).

- [History](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/search-and-browse/history.md).

- [Tab groups](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/search-and-browse/groupoftabs.md).

- Open [tabs](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/navigation/about.md).

- [Autofill data](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/autofill.md).

- [Extensions](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/extension.md) you installed.

- [Backgrounds you selected](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/theme.md).

- Some settings, such as site permissions or Yandex Browser language.

{% note info %}

We recommend moving passwords [via a separate file](#password) because this is more secure. If you want to import passwords via your profile, be sure to [create a master password](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#create), otherwise Yandex Browser will not be able to decrypt your passwords after you import them.

{% endnote %}

{% list tabs %}

- Windows 7, 8, 10, 11

  Yandex Browser profiles are stored in the `User Data` folder. We recommend importing them all at once and then deleting the ones you don't need in the settings:

  1. Rename the `~/.config/yandex-browser-beta` folder to `~/.config/yandex-browser`.

  1. Launch Yandex Browser. Select the profile you need (if you moved more than one profile). After that, the beta version of Yandex Browser will launch with an empty profile, and the stable version — with the profile you transferred.

  1. Make sure the data and settings have been added to Yandex Browser. [Delete](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md#delete) the profiles you don't need.

  {% endcut %}

- macOS

  Yandex Browser profiles are stored in the `YandexBrowser` folder. We recommend importing them all at once and then deleting the ones you don't need in the settings:

  1. Close Yandex Browser: click **Yandex** → **Exit** or press **⌘ + Q**.

  1. Launch Yandex Browser. Select the profile you need (if you moved more than one profile).

  1. Make sure the data and settings have been added to Yandex Browser. [Delete](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/profile.md#delete) the profiles you don't need.

{% endlist %}

## Via a file (bookmarks and passwords) {#file}

If you need to save only passwords or bookmarks, move them using a file.

    {% note info %}

    The archive is downloaded in ZIP format.

    {% endnote %}

    1. Click **![](../_image/settings-icon.svg)** → **Passwords, cards, data**.

        If you don't have a [master password](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) but do have a Windows or macOS password, the browser will ask you to enter it. This is safe: Yandex Browser can't access your system password since you enter it in a system window. Linux doesn't have system passwords.

        {% endnote %}
        <!-- endsource: en/_includes/reusables/phrases/id-phrases/master-password-OS.md -->

    1. Name the archive and save it in any convenient place.

    {% endcut %}

    {% cut "To a CSV file" %}

        - **Yandex Browser (*.csv)**

    1. Enter the password file and click **Open**.

    The import will begin. When all passwords are imported, Yandex Browser will show you how many passwords have been added.

    Once imported, passwords are [encrypted](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#passwords-crypt) with a key generated by Yandex Browser. For better security, create a [master password](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) and a [backup encryption key](https://www.yandex.com/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#restore-key).
