Exceptions for page elements

What is an exception?

To protect your data, Yandex Browser applies various handling rules to website content. For example, it blocks pop-up windows, warns you when a website requests your location, and so on. If Yandex Browser rules interfere with how you use a website, you can set an exception for this site. For example, you can apply exceptions if you don't want Yandex Browser to warn you every time Yandex Maps requests your location. Or enhance security on a specific website by not allowing the site to run JavaScript.

Content settings Handling rules
By default for all websites Alternative rules for a specific website
Images All images are shown.
  •  Block — does not allow the website to show images. It will load faster without images.
JavaScript JavaScript is allowed to run.
  •  Block — does not allow the website to launch JavaScript. Some JavaScript scripts steal passwords and infect the computer. This option allows you to block the website from running any JavaScript. It will enhance security but can prevent the website from working correctly.
Pop-up windows They are blocked on all websites because they clutter the screen and are often used for banner advertisements. If a site tries to open pop-up windows, the SmartBox displays the  icon.
  • Allow — the website will be allowed to open pop-up windows.
Background sync Device syncing occurs in the background.
  • Block — prevents syncing Yandex Browser in the background on all devices.
User location When trying to determine your location, Yandex Browser will ask you to allow data transfer.
  • Allow — allows a website (such as Yandex Maps) to detect your location without asking for permission each time.
  • Block — prohibits websites to determine your location.
Reminders (such as when you have meetings) When you go to a website that sends notifications, Yandex Browser will ask you each time whether or not to show them. In Incognito mode, the browser blocks notifications from all websites.
  • Allow — allows a website (for example, Yandex Calendar) to show notifications.
  • Block — does not allow the website to show notifications.
Full screen If the site tries to switch Yandex Browser to full screen mode, Yandex Browser will notify you about it.
  • Allow — allow the website to toggle full screen without asking your permission.
Cursor If a website (such as an online game) tries to hide the cursor, Yandex Browser will notify you.
  • Allow — allow the website to hide the cursor without asking your permission.
  • Block — do not allow the website to hide the cursor.
Camera If a website (such as a platform for video conferences) tries to access your camera or microphone, Yandex Browser will notify you.
  •  Allow — Allows the website to access your camera automatically. For an HTTP website, this setting will remain for the duration of your session, while HTTPS websites will be able to access your camera during future sessions as well.
  •  Block — Does not allow the website to access your camera.

Full control over MIDI devices If a website requests access to electronic musical instruments using the MIDI interface, Yandex Browser will notify you.
