Discounted Items
On Market, most products can be sold at a discount — for example, refurbished electronics, devices received through trade-in programs, items with damaged packaging, or display models.
❌ You cannot sell the following with any type of discount:
- Medicines and dietary supplements (BAAs).
- Personal hygiene items.
- Adult products.
- Food products — including pet food and sports nutrition.
- Plants for aquariums and terrariums.
- Linen, sewing, knitwear, and hosiery.
- Disposable tableware.
- TV boxes, media players, Yandex devices — Stations and Modules.
- Phones with battery capacity below 80%.
- Cameras with a shutter count exceeding 80 actuations.
- Tires if the tread wear exceeds 60%.
- Products with less than three months remaining before their expiration date.
- Products with damages affecting their usability.
- Products with unavailable functions.
- Products missing parts of the kit if it hinders their operation. For example, a phone without a SIM card holder cannot be sold even if it is otherwise like new, but a phone without included headphones can be.
❌ With the discount type "Used Item", you cannot sell:
- Medical devices.
- Perfume and cosmetics.
- Household chemicals.
- Jewelry.
For certain categories, there are additional conditions for selling with the discount types "Display Model" or "Discounted Item":
|
Category |
Conditions |
|
Medical devices |
Items must be new and not put into operation; minor external defects and/or packaging damage are allowed. |
|
Household chemicals |
Items must be new; minor external defects are allowed, but packaging must not be damaged. |
Who can sell discounted items
Any sellers can sell discounted items, except those operating under the FBS Last Mile model.
Conditions:
- Discounted clothing, footwear, and accessories can only be sold under the FBS model — provided you can verify the authenticity of the goods and confirm it to the buyer if questions arise.
- Discounted jewelry requires marking and a tag containing all necessary information in accordance with current legislation (GIIS DMDC).
- Products subject to marking can only be sold at a discount by organizations with OKVED code 47.79.3.
- A discounted item cannot be more expensive than a new one: to keep your items on the showcase and attract buyers, set the price at least 5% lower than the minimum price on Market for the same new item.
- You must provide a seller's warranty: 90 days for electronics and home appliances, 45 days for other categories. Exceptions include clothing, footwear, accessories, books, CD/DVDs, vinyl records, and film cassettes, for which no warranty is required.
- If possible, it is better to immediately offer a relatively wide range of discounted items — from fifty SKUs.
- The description of the discounted item in the special field must detail its actual condition and the reason for the discount. It should not contain extraneous information unrelated to the specific item — refer to the guide below.
How to fill in data for discounted items
Special fields are provided for selling discounted items: Discount Type, Appearance, and Item Condition Description. You cannot specify information about the type or reason for the discount in other fields, such as the title.
Any information about the item and its defects or signs of use must be honest and detailed. This helps Market users make a purchase decision and helps sellers reduce returns due to the item not meeting buyer expectations.
Carefully fill in the fields for selling discounted items
Information in one field must correspond to information in others; there should be no contradictions or discrepancies with the item data or its actual condition.
Market hides items from the showcase if information about them is insufficient, filled out incorrectly, or does not match the item's condition or description.
Discount Type
The Discount Type field describes the reason why the item is sold at a discount:
|
Type |
Which items to choose for |
|
Used Item |
The item previously belonged to another person, was used, or was received and unpacked by a buyer — even if there are no visible signs of use. For example, this could be electronics received through a trade-in program. |
|
Display Model |
An unpacked item that stood on a store display — regardless of storage conditions. For example, this could be the last unit in stock removed from the display. |
|
Discounted Item |
The item has no packaging, damaged packaging, or the item itself is damaged. For example, this could be an item damaged during delivery with a small chip. |
|
Refurbished Item |
The item was repaired or parts were replaced to eliminate defects. For example, this could be a new phone whose screen was broken during delivery and replaced by the manufacturer. |
|
Resale |
Only for clothing, footwear, and accessories that were previously *used by another person. For example, these could be used shoes that have undergone all stages of hygienic treatment, with their exact condition, size, and material specified in the description. |
The discount type must match the condition of the discounted item and the information in its description. For example, for an item returned by a buyer to the store a day after purchase, you must select Used Item — types Discounted Item or Resale are not suitable.
Appearance
The Appearance field describes the condition of the item. Three options are available for all discount types:
|
Item Condition |
Criteria |
|
Like New |
The item is in ideal condition, with no defects or signs of use. The item must be in factory configuration, but the manual and warranty card may be missing. |
|
Excellent |
The item is in excellent condition; there may be minor, unnoticeable scuffs or scratches. The item kit may be incomplete. |
|
Good |
The item is in good condition; there may be scratches, scuffs, or minor damages. The item kit may be incomplete. |
The selected option must match the actual condition of the discounted item and the information in its description. For example, for an item with even one minor scratch in an inconspicuous place, you must select Excellent — the option Like New is not suitable.
Condition Description
In the Condition Description field, specify only information that distinguishes the discounted item from a new one. Do not include manufacturer descriptions, features and functions, usage rules, or other general information.
The following information is mandatory in this field:
- Reason for the discount. Briefly describe the item's history: for example, it was actively used or simply sat in a warehouse for several years.
- Whether the item has defects, what they are, how noticeable they are, and where they are located.
- Whether the kit is complete and if its parts are original. If the kit is incomplete, specify what is included.
- Condition of the packaging and whether it is original.
- If the item was refurbished — returned to the seller or manufacturer to eliminate defects and signs of use — be sure to specify how this affected the item's operation, which parts were replaced, and whether original or non-original parts were used.
- For smartphones and similar electronics, you must additionally specify the battery condition and warranty information.
Ready-made phrases with examples will help you quickly prepare a good description. Please use other phrasing options only if the recommended ones are completely unsuitable.
How to describe defects
Label damages with words like "scratch," "chip," "dent." Label signs of use as "scuffs," "stains."
Specify how pronounced the defect is: "noticeable" — visible to the naked eye, or "unnoticeable" — small and not visible at first glance.
If the item was refurbished, specify "refurbished by manufacturer" or "refurbished by seller."
Examples
- "There are barely noticeable scuffs on the screen."
- "Two small scratches on the screen, scuffs on the back panel, battery capacity over 90%."
- "No defects, works correctly, refurbished item — casing replaced by manufacturer, original parts used."
How to describe the kit
Specify what is included in the kit and note if any parts are missing or if you are offering a replacement:
- "Full kit with original components."
- "Without components."
- "Missing" — e.g., power adapter, cable, etc.
- "Replaced" — e.g., cable.
- "Non-original" — e.g., power adapter.
Examples
- "Kit: power adapter and cable."
- "Kit: non-original power adapter, charging cable missing."
How to describe packaging
Note if the item has non-original packaging and describe its condition:
- "Factory packaging" — the item is in the same box it was originally sold in.
- "Non-original packaging" — the item was packed in a new box for discounted sale.
- "Packaging opened" — the packaging was opened, hence the discount.
- "Damaged packaging" — the packaging is dented or torn, hence the discount.
Examples
- "Packaging opened."
- "Original factory packaging, several scratches on the side."
- "Packaging may have stains."
Discounted items must be packaged for delivery. If packaging exists but is damaged, a sticker with the inscription "Discounted" should be affixed to it.
How to handle claims
For electronics, appliances, and complex items
Record a video showing that the item works and all its parts are included. If a buyer has claims regarding the condition or functionality of the item, the video will make it easier for you to prove that you sold a working item with all components.
If you need to file a claim regarding the item's condition — for example, a buyer returned an item with damages that were not present — Market will evaluate it based precisely on the images added to the catalog. If you did not upload photos of defects and damages to your dashboard, Market will not accept the claim.
If an item from these categories previously belonged to another person but was not used (e.g., a new jacket in opened packaging), the discount types Display Model and Discounted Item are available for it.
This category includes hair and body care products, as well as toothpaste.
