Widgets

A widget is a small block on your device home screen that gives you quick access to Yandex services, the weather forecast, and other information.

Widget types

Yandex Search (half screen)

A search bar (half-screen width).

To change the widget color:

  1. On the home screen, tap (profile picture).

  2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Widget 2 × 1.
  3. Select a color scheme.
Yandex Search (full screen)

A search bar and Smart camera (fullscreen width).

To change the widget color:

  1. On the home screen, tap (profile picture).

  2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Widget 2 × 1.
  3. Select a color scheme.

You can also add a search bar to the notification bar or to the device's lock screen. For installation and setup instructions, go to Search bar.

Yandex Weather

The widget shows the current temperature outside and the hourly forecast for the day.

Set up a widget
Change location

  1. Add the widget to the home screen.

  2. Open the widget settings any way you like:

    In the Yandex app

    1. On the home screen, tap (profile picture).

    2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Yandex Weather.
    On the home screen

    Under the widget, tap Settings.

  3. Turn on automatic location detection or select a city manually.

Change the background

  1. Add the widget to the home screen.

  2. Open the widget settings any way you like:

    In the Yandex app

    1. On the home screen, tap (profile picture).

    2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Yandex Weather.
    On the home screen

    Under the widget, tap Settings.

  3. Choose a background. If you choose the dark or light background, you can also adjust the transparency of the widget.

You can change the widget background and your location.

Yandex Search (large)

Yandex Search, battery level, date, time, outdoor temperature, and traffic information.

You can change the widget background and your location.

Games

Quick access to Yandex Games.

This feature is available for devices running on iOS 14.0 and higher.

On the home screen

Traffic, weather, and USD exchange rate. Quick access to Yandex Search.

Set up a widget

You can choose services for the widget:

  1. Open the Yandex app.
  2. On the home screen, tap (profile picture).
  3. Open App settings → Widgets.
  4. Place the service that you use most often in Slot 1 (for example, Yandex Weather). This widget will be shown first. Fill the remaining slots with other services.
Search

Yandex Search, date, and weather. You can choose a theme: light, dark, or system.

Weather (large)

Detailed weather forecast for your region. You can choose forecast by days or hours and turn the precipitation map on or off.

Set up a widget
  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. In the window that opens, tap Edit widget.
  3. Set the city manually (by default, it's determined automatically), enable forecast by days or hours, enable the precipitation map.
Weather (1 × 1 or 4 × 1)

Hourly weather forecast and precipitation. You can choose the format:

  • 1 x 1 — current weather and forecast for the morning, day, and evening (half-screen width).
  • 4 x 1 — Hourly forecast (fullscreen width).

The city is automatically detected by default. To change it:

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. In the window that opens, tap Edit widget → City.
  3. Start typing the name of the city in the search bar and select it from the list.
On the lock screen
Yandex

A button that launches Yandex Browser. No settings.

Devices

Tapping the widget opens a smart device connected to the app, such as Yandex Station. No settings.

Search bar

A search bar. No settings.

Smart camera

A button that launches the Smart camera. No settings.

Weather (round)

This widget displays information about the weather in your part of the city or town. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather (rectangle)

This widget displays information about the weather in your part of the city or town. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Informers

Display information about the temperature outside, weather, and traffic. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather (above the clock)

This widget displays information about the weather in your part of the city or town. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather and "Feels like" (above the clock)

The widget displays info about the weather and the feels-like temperature. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Add a widget to the screen

  1. On your device home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Widgets.
  3. In the widget list, select Yandex.
  4. Choose a Yandex widget that you like in the thumbnail list and drag it to a free area on the screen.

  2. In the upper-right corner, tap and select Yandex in the widget list.
  3. Select a Yandex widget that you like from the thumbnail list and tap Add Widget.
  1. On the lock screen, tap and hold empty space anywhere on the screen.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Configure.
  3. Tap the area above or below the clock to add the widget there.
  4. Select Yandex.
  5. Select a widget by swiping left and right.
  6. Tap the widget you want to add.

Remove a widget from the screen

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. Tap Delete.
  3. Confirm deletion.

  2. Tap or Delete widget.
  3. Confirm deletion.
  1. On your device's home screen, tap Edit.
  2. Next to the widget you want to delete, tap and confirm the deletion.
  3. Click Finish.

Why do I have multiple identical widgets?

Widgets are built into many Yandex mobile apps, for example, Yandex Disk, Yandex Maps, Yandex Navigator, and Yandex Keyboard. For this reason, several identical widgets may be present on the device at the same time.

You can remove the widgets that you don't want.

Why isn't a widget updated?

Here are the most common reasons why widgets don't show updated information:

No internet connection

Check if your device is connected to the internet.

Power saving mode is enabled

Note

Power saving mode is only available on Android devices.

Power saving mode prevents widgets from updating in background mode.

Open your device settings and make sure that this mode is off or turn it off. Power saving mode may also turn on automatically when your device battery is low.

You need to allow the app to run in the background

Note

Applicable to Android devices only. The path may vary depending on your device model.

For the widget to update properly, you need to grant it a permission to run in the background. To do this:

  1. Open device settings and select Apps → Yandex → Advanced → Battery.
  2. On a mobile device, make sure there are no restrictions on background activity. On a tablet, turn on Allow background activity.
