Child account

Note

The child account is available in the Yandex app starting version 22.11.1 for Android and 22.11.4 for iOS. If you don't see the account, update and restart your app.

Why use child accounts

With a child account, you can control what content is available to your child in the Yandex app and protect them from the things you don't want them to see.

In the child account:

  • Yandex services offer age-appropriate content. Set age restrictions in the Family account.

  • The search results will exclude adult content completely (even if the query is explicitly aimed at finding such resources), as well as sites containing obscene language.

  • To prevent your child from logging out of their account, logging out requires a code from an SMS that's sent to the parent's phone.

  • Yandex Music hides songs with explicit lyrics.

  • Family filtering mode is enabled and can't be disabled.

  • Incognito mode can't be enabled.

Note

Enhance security by enabling Caller ID on the child's device to protect them from unwanted calls.

Create

  2. In the menu that opens, tap Create a child's account.
  3. Enter the child's name and date of birth. Tap Next.

  5. Enter the code from the SMS that will be sent to the phone linked to your account.

  7. Click Finish.

To log in to the child account, select it when logging in.

Convert to adult account

Note

You can also convert an adult account to a child one. Only the family group administrator can convert a child account to an adult one and the other way around. To set up roles, follow the instructions.

You can convert a child account to an adult one. This action must be confirmed in the child account.

  1. Go to the Family tab.
  2. Under Group features, tap Roles → Convert child account to adult account.
  3. Click the name of the child whose account you want to convert. A link will be copied to the clipboard. Send it to the child.
  4. Log in to the child account and follow the link.
  5. Confirm you want to convert the child account to an adult one.

Warning

The phone number of the user who created the account is usually linked to the child account, and it stays that way when the child account is converted to an adult one. Change this number to the new account owner's number for added security.

Move to another family group

You can move a child account from another family group to your own. This action must be confirmed from the child account and using the code from the SMS. The code is sent to the phone number of the user who created the child account.

  1. Go to the Family tab.

  2. Under Family group, tap Invite family member.

  3. Choose how you want to send the invitation.

    • Share a link. A link will be copied to the clipboard. Send it to the child. Log in to the child account, follow the link received, and accept the invitation.
    • Send an SMS or email. Enter the email address that's linked to the child account. An invitation to the family group will be sent there. Accept it.
  4. An SMS with a confirmation code will be sent to the phone number of the user who created the child account. To accept the invitation to the other family group, enter the code from the SMS.

Warning

The phone number of the user who created the account is usually linked to the child account, and it stays that way when the child account is moved to another family. We recommend changing that number for added security.
