## 4.1.3.2. Type of road {#4.1.3.2}

General rules for assigning road types are given in Section [3.3.3.2. Type of road](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.2).

#### 4.1.3.2.1. Type of road <q>Numbered highway</q> {#4.1.3.2.1}

The <q>Numbered highway</q> road type (see [3.3.3.2.2. Numbered highway](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.2.2)) is assigned to roads of the following significance:

- International highways.
- National highways.
- Roads of regional and inter-municipal significance (or roads of similar significance outside the Russian Federation).

Don't draw items that relate to roads of lower significance (for example, local roads in the Russian Federation or rural roads in Ukraine), with the exception of those located in Belarus and Latvia. For example, _М-1 Belarus, М-2 Crimea, М-10 Russia, М-25, А-107, Р-132_, etc.:

![](_assets/rd_tp_02.png)

If numbered highways in different classification systems partially coincide (for example, the roads of the European or Asian road networks and in the List of Public Motorways of Federal Significance), map the roads they contain as individual items. Examples include the _M-10 road in Russia_, which is part of highway _E95_ in Europe, and _Asian Highway 6 (AH6)_ connecting South Korea and Eastern Europe, which coincides with highways _M-1 Belarus and M-5 Ural_.

For roads that belong to European or Asian networks (for example, _Е95_ or _АН6_), enter **two official names** (in Russian and English).

You can enter an English name for a Russian highway (for example, _М-10 Russia_), but this is **not mandatory**.

## 4.1.3.3. Rules for naming roads {#4.1.3.3}

General rules for naming roads are given in Section [3.3.3.3. Name of road](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.3).

#### 4.1.3.3.1 {#4.1.3.3.1}

When entering road names, follow these rules (the section below distinguishes the _status part_ of a **place name type** such as <q>avenue</q>, <q>street</q>, or <q>lane</q>, from the _proper name_ of the item):

**4.1.3.3.1.1** {#4.1.3.3.1.1}

Capitalize all words in the name, except for:

- The status part (type) of the place-name (улица, шоссе, линия, тупик, тракт, бульвар, набережная, переулок, and so on).

    Example: _бульвар Адмирала Ушакова, улица Кузнецкий Мост, переулок 1-я Линия_.

- The words <q>лет</q>, <q>год</q>, and <q>съезда</q>.⠀

    For example: _улица 40 лет Октября_, _проспект 60-летия Октября_, _улица 1905 года_, _улица 19-го съезда ВЛКСМ_ (for rules on writing numerals, see also points [4.1.3.3.1.5](#4.1.3.3.1.5) and [4.1.3.3.1.6](#4.1.3.3.1.6)).

- The word <q>имени</q>.⠀

    For example: _улица имени Зверева_, _проспект имени Газеты Красноярский Рабочий_.

- The word <q>война</q> (in any grammatical case).

    For example: _бульвар 70-летия Победы в Великой Отечественной войне_.

- Hydronyms (types of bodies of water) in the place-name.

    For example: _набережная реки Казанки, набережная канала Грибоедова_.

**4.1.3.3.1.2** {#4.1.3.3.1.2}

Do not shorten official names. All words must be written in full. This rule does not apply to acronyms (see section [4.1.3.3.1.7](#4.1.3.3.1.7)).

**4.1.3.3.1.3** {#4.1.3.3.1.3}

Word order in names:

:   **4.1.3.3.1.3.1** {#4.1.3.3.1.3.1}

    : Write the place type after the proper name:

        - **Before the name**, if:
            - The name is a noun in the nominative or genitive case.

                For example: _улица Солянка_, _проспект Вернадского_, _переулок Шмидта_.

            - The name is a combination of an adjective and a noun.⠀

                For example: _улица Каретный Ряд_, _улица Кузнецкий Мост_.

        - **In the middle of the name**, if:
            - The phrase <q>type + name</q> includes an ordinal numeral and a noun phase (may include an adjective).

                For example: _2-я улица Машиностроения_, _8-я улица Красной Слободы_, _2-я улица Ямского Поля_, _1-й проезд Марии Ульяновой_ (for rules on writing numerals, see also paragraphs [4.1.3.3.1.5](#4.1.3.3.1.5) and [4.1.3.3.1.6](#4.1.3.3.1.6)).

            - The phrase [status part (type) + name] includes the status part (type) of the road. For example: _Малый переулок Чудинова_.

        - **At the end of the name**, if:
            - The name is an adjective, including a possessive adjective.

                For example: _Таганская улица_, _Ленинский проспект_, _Ткацкая улица_, _Тихая улица_.

            - The name includes an ordinal numeral and an adjective referring to the order of similarly named streets.

                For example: _3-я Болотная улица_, _2-й Иртышевский проезд_, _2-я Тверская-Ямская улица_ (for rules on writing numerals, see also paragraphs [4.1.3.3.1.5](#4.1.3.3.1.5) and [4.1.3.3.1.6](#4.1.3.3.1.6)).

            - The name includes a description of the street that distinguishes it from other streets (in terms of their size, age, or location: _Нижний, Верхний, Вышний, Средний, Большой, Малый, Новый, Старый, Левый, Правый, Передний, Задний_). In this case, the descriptive word is placed first, and the remaining words follow.

                For example: _Большой Чудиновский переулок_, _Верхняя Первомайская улица_, _Нижний Сусальный переулок_.

:   **4.1.3.3.1.3.2** {#4.1.3.3.1.3.2}

    : If street names or passageways have numbers, write them at the end of the name.

        For example: _Street #1, Planned Passageway #5342_, _Passageway #657_ (for more on writing numbers, also see points [4.1.3.3.1.5](#4.1.3.3.1.5) and [4.1.3.3.1.6](#4.1.3.3.1.6)).

**4.1.3.3.1.4** {#4.1.3.3.1.4}

In memorial names that consist of either a first and last name or a title and last name (with no patronymic), write out the first name, title and profession completely and put the last name after all these other elements. If the full name is unknown, only the first letter of the name is used.

For example: _улица Маршала Конева_, _набережная Афанасия Никитина_, _улица Фридриха Энгельса_, _улица П. Ядрихинского_.

If a name consists of a first name, patronymic, and last name, use initials for the first two. **Don't** put a space between the initials.

For example: _улица А.В. Плякина_, _улица С.Ф. Тархова_(not _улица С. Ф. Тархова_ or _улица Тархова С.Ф._).

:   **4.1.3.3.1.4.1** {#4.1.3.3.1.4.1}

    : If the first name and patronymic of the individual are well known (for example, A.S. Pushkin), omit the initials in the <q>caption on the map</q>.

        For example: official name — _улица А.С. Пушкина_, caption name — _улица Пушкина_.

:   **4.1.3.3.1.4.2** {#4.1.3.3.1.4.2}

    : Double last names are hyphenated.

        For example: _улица Салтыкова-Щедрина_, _улица Мамина-Сибиряка_.

**4.1.3.3.1.5** {#4.1.3.3.1.5}

If a name includes **numbers**, check official sources for guidelines on how to write the numbers correctly (for example, in text or number format, using Roman or Arabic numerals).

For example: _улица XX Партсъезда_, _переулок 5-я Линия Военной Горки_, _Первая улица_.

If a street [linked](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.1) to an administrative division marked with the [<q>Has no official status</q> attribute](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_adm_rul2.md#3.2.2.7) is numbered, that number should always be entered as an ordinal (other spelling options can be set as the [<q>also known as</q>](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/attr_name.md#3.1.3.1.6) name).

For example: _2-я улица_, _4-й проезд_.

For rules on writing numerals, see also paragraphs [3.3.3.3.1](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.3.1).

**4.1.3.3.1.6** {#4.1.3.3.1.6}

Names containing numerals:

:   **4.1.3.3.1.6.1** {#4.1.3.3.1.6.1}

    : Write ordinal numbers as follows:

        - If the name of a road contains an ordinal number (a digit), put an appropriate ordinal ending after the number.

            For example: _переулок 1-я Линия, улица 2-й Таманской Дивизии, улица 30-го Авиаполка_.

        - If the ordinal number is not part of the name but defines the place-name type (street, lane, etc.), put an appropriate ordinal ending after the number:

            For example: _4-й Парковый переулок_, _8-я улица Декабристов_.

:   **4.1.3.3.1.6.2** {#4.1.3.3.1.6.2}

    : Cardinal numbers in road names can't have ordinal endings.

        For example: _аллея 11 Героев Сапёров, улица 33 Героев, переулок 26 Бакинских Комиссаров_.

:   **4.1.3.3.1.6.3** {#4.1.3.3.1.6.3}

    : Dates written as digits in street names can't have ordinal endings.

        For example: _улица 8 Марта, переулок 1 Мая_.

:   **4.1.3.3.1.6.4** {#4.1.3.3.1.6.4}

    : Names of streets, including "projected" and "numbered" passageways, in number format can't have ordinal endings. Use the **№** sign and put a space to separate it from the number.

        For example: _улица № 1, Проектируемый проезд № 5342, проезд № 657_.

**4.1.3.3.1.7** {#4.1.3.3.1.7}

Do not expand acronyms in street names. Keep them capitalized.

For example: _улица КПСС_.

## 4.1.3.4 Accessibility for cyclists {#4.1.3.4}

#### 4.1.3.4.1 {#4.1.3.4.1}

In localities, disable the [Accessibility](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul2.md#acc) option for cyclists on class 2–6 roads that have a <q>[tunnel](https://www.yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul2.md#str_type)</q>.

#### 4.1.3.4.2 {#4.1.3.4.2}

Accessibility for cyclists within the cities in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan:

- We recommend to enable accessibility on sidewalks that run parallel to roads of class 2–5, but disable the option on the roads themselves.
- It's preferred to enable accessibility on class 6 and 7 roads and disable it for sidewalks that run parallel to these roads (if accessibility for cyclists is already disabled for the sidewalk, don't re-enable it).

{% note info %}

If you want to mark a class 2–5 road as inaccessible to cyclists, you must first mark the sidewalks drawn on both sides of the road as accessible.

{% endnote %}

#### 4.1.3.4.3 {#4.1.3.4.3}

Class 2–5 roads are marked accessible to cyclists if disabling the accessibility setting creates an isolated network of roads with bicycle access. To ensure connectivity of bicycle routes, the cyclist accessibility setting is enabled on the minimum number of road sections and links that connect isolated parts of the network with its other parts in both directions of traffic.

## 4.1.3.5 Residential area {#4.1.3.5}

In Belarus, apply the "Residential area" attribute to roads passing through areas where entrances and exits are marked with the "Residential area" and "End of residential area" signs, as well as to courtyards adjacent to residential buildings and gardening or dacha co-ops. For road sections marked with the "Residential area" attribute, set the speed limit to 20 km/h.
