Other route settings

Yandex Navigator can run in the background, giving you directions and hints even when the app is collapsed or your device screen is off. To enable background navigation:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Enable Background navigation.

Background navigation doesn't work on my Android device

Note. The instructions may vary depending on your Android version and device model.

1. Open your device settings.
2. In the app list, select Yandex Navigator.
3. Tap Notifications.
4. Enable Background navigation.

To receive notifications when the app is hidden, enable Background navigation instructions.

The cursor shows your location on the map. By default, it looks like this: .

While driving, turn and traffic lane hints appear on the map along the route. To pin them to the corner of the screen:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Enable Show turn hints in the corner of the screen.

To lock the map's orientation to always point north up while en route:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Enable the North is always up option.

You can enable detailed rendering of road markings and lanes on the map. The detailed road is displayed when you follow a route.

To enable or disable automatic map scaling while traveling along a route:

When following a route, Yandex Navigator may suggest alternative routes with the same travel time.

What alternative routes look like

To see alternative routes to your selected map point:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Enable Alternative routes.

This setting doesn't affect the display of faster routes. If Alternative routes are disabled, Yandex Navigator will continue to show faster routes during navigation.

To plot routes avoiding or including toll roads:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Turn the Avoid toll roads option on or off.

To plot routes avoiding or including bad and unpaved roads:

1. Tap  (profile picture). If you haven't logged in, tap .
2. Tap Settings → Navigation.
3. Turn the Avoid bad and unpaved roads option on or off.
