Filter adult content

With Yandex Search, you can find any information available on the internet, including resources with sexual content. To exclude unwanted content from search results, Yandex provides different filtering modes for the documents found:

  • No filter: search results include all the documents found by the query, including web resources with sexual content.
  • Moderate filter: sites with sexual content are excluded from search results unless the query is explicitly aimed at finding such resources (default search mode).
  • Family mode: sexual content is completely excluded from search results (even if the query is explicitly aimed at finding such resources).

Moderate filter and Family mode generally do a good job excluding inappropriate content from search results, but they may miss something and make occasional mistakes. If you see a page with sexual content in Yandex Search when filtering is enabled, please tell us its URL.

Enable family search mode

You can choose how to filter search results in the search settings. To do this:

  1. Under Filter search results, select Family mode.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Save.

You can disable Family mode and change you filter settings at any time.

To save the selected filtering mode and apply it to new sessions, enable cookies.

You can also set up family search mode by using Yandex DNS or by entering the Yandex IP address for family search mode in the hosts file. See Family search mode for organizations to learn how to do this.

Disable family search mode

If Family mode was enabled in search settings:

  1. In Filter search results, select the appropriate mode.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Save.

If family mode still applies to your search results even after you disabled it:

  • Clear the browser cache.

  • Delete Yandex cookies. To do this, go to Yandex Internetometer and click the delete cookies link at the bottom of the page.

  • Check the DNS settings in your Wi-Fi network or on your device and change them if necessary. To confirm that it is the DNS settings that are causing the problem, connect to a different Wi-Fi network or use a mobile data network and repeat the same query.

    Attention.

If you're using an Apple device, check if you have “Screen Time” enabled. Try going to Settings → Screen Time → Content and Privacy Restrictions → Content Restrictions → Web Content and disabling the Limit Adult Websites option.

To set up Yandex DNS on a computer, go to your network settings. Access to edit these settings may be restricted by the computer administrator.

The configuration procedure depends on the operating system you are using:
