# Snow depth map

## What is a snow depth map {#find}

[Snow depth map](https://yandex.com/pogoda/maps/snow) shows the approximate value right now, as well as the snow depth in the previous 24 hours and the next 10 days. Areas with no snow are shown in gray, the lowest snow depth is shown in blue, and the highest is shown in white.

Snow depth is an approximate estimate calculated based on the water equivalent of the fallen snow and its density. Water equivalent is the thickness of the layer of water that forms when the original amount of snow melts.

## How to use the map {#work}

There are two ways to view the snow depth map:

- In the **Weather map** section of the [service homepage](https://yandex.com/weather/) click **![](_assets/snow-icon.svg) Snow depth**.
    
- Click **Weather map** at the top of any page. Click **![](_assets/snow-icon.svg) Snow depth** in the top left corner of the map.

On the pressure map, you can find out:
- The forecast for the near future: move the slider on the time scale at the bottom of the page or select the time.
- The snow depth for a specific location: mouse over it.

To switch to a different weather map, select it in the top left corner of the map.

To open the snow depth map:

1. On the homepage, tap the map.
    
1. Tap **![](_assets/choose-map.png)** → **![](_assets/snow-icon.svg) Snow depth** on the right of the map.

On the snow depth map, you can find out:
- The forecast for the near future: move the slider on the time scale at the bottom of the page or select the time.
- Total snow depth and the amount of snowfall during the day for a specific location. To do this, tap the location on the map.
- The total snowfall or the snowfall for the past 24 hours. To view this data, select the option at the bottom of the map.

To switch to a different weather map, tap ![](_assets/choose-map.png) on the right side of the map.
