Site security and violations

Yandex algorithms regularly check websites in automatic mode to ensure that the search results display high-quality and safe pages.

The goal of the algorithms is to reduce the likelihood of any harm to users. If your website violates Yandex Search rules or uses unfair promotion methods, the algorithms may apply restrictions. These restrictions can affect ranking:

  • of the entire website — if the violation relates to the parent domain, the restrictions will apply to all subdomains of the site;

  • of certain sections — the restrictions apply only to certain sections (for example, pages on a specific topic) and do not affect the entire site as a whole.

Additionally, the search results may display warnings about the site's potential danger.

Where to see the restrictions

The list of violations, their descriptions, and recommendations on how to lift the restrictions are displayed in Yandex Webmaster on the Website Optimization → Security and violations page.

If the list of violations is not displayed on the Website Optimization → Security and violations page, there are no restrictions on the site or its sections.

To receive notifications about detected violations more quickly, subscribe to notifications.

How to lift a restriction

  1. In Yandex Webmaster, go to the Website Optimization → Security and violations page.
  2. Eliminate the specified violations on the site or its sections.
  3. After making the corrections, in the block with the violation description, specify in detail what you have changed. If necessary, attach files that confirm your actions.
  4. Check the Violation fixed box.
  5. Click the Submit for review button and confirm the action.

Next to the violation name, the following status will be displayed:

  • Submitted for review — the site or its sections have been sent for verification by Yandex algorithms.

  • Under review — the algorithms have started checking the site. The verification period is up to 30 days.

  • Restriction lifted — the verification was successful. The mark indicating the site's danger will disappear from the search results. The site will begin to rank in the search results depending on how well it matches the user's query at a given time. To make the violation notification disappear from Yandex Webmaster, click Hide.

  • Restriction not lifted — the verification is complete, but the algorithms continue to detect violations on the site or its sections. You can report the violation fixed again only 30 days after sending the site for verification. During this time, the Submit for review button will be unavailable.

Types of violations

To find out how to eliminate a violation, go to the page with its description.

Use of SEO texts

The site's pages contain texts that are useless to the user. These texts are created to manipulate search engines and can be found in text blocks, navigation or control elements, and tag clouds.

Unexpected redirects

The user is redirected to a third-party resource either automatically or when interacting with site elements, and this redirection is not obvious to them.

Mimicry

The site copies the appearance or functionality of another popular resource through similar components (domain name, icon, logo, content, description, headings) or pretends to be an official resource that does not exist.

Cloaking

The site displays different information to visitors and search engine bots.

Unwanted software

The site contains dangerous or unwanted programs, including links to them.

Social engineering and deception

The site owners intentionally post false information to deceptively obtain users' personal data or money.

Fraudulent activity

The site intentionally deceives users with inaccurate or distorted information, which can lead to financial loss or a misunderstanding of the terms of a transaction.

Useless content

The content on the site has no value for users and does not help them solve their tasks.

Imitation of user actions

To create the appearance of a popular resource, site traffic is artificially inflated, either for the site itself or as a service provided to others. This may involve using services or recruiting users who simulate visits to the site.
