Importing mail from other mailboxes

With an email importer, you can import emails from your other mailboxes to your Yandex mailbox and read them all in one place.

Enable an email importer

Choose the mailbox you want to import messages from:

  1. Open settings.

  2. Choose the mailbox to which you want to import messages.

  3. Select Email importer.

  4. Choose the mailbox from which you want to import messages: Mail.Ru or Outlook.

  5. Choose an account or log in.

  6. Grant Yandex access to the source mailbox. Yandex doesn't perform any actions with your email account without your consent.

  7. When a connection to the other mailbox is established, the app will suggest adding a colored label to its messages. This is a way to automatically mark all imported emails so you can easily find them.

You can add or edit the label later by following these instructions, but then it will be applied only to new messages.

  8. Tap Import.

  9. When the email importer is enabled, you'll see a notification. Tap OK.
The mailbox will appear in the Connected accounts section of the email importer and under the list of folders and labels in the app. New messages may appear with a delay ranging from a few minutes to a few days. It depends on the mail server from which the messages are imported.

To import messages from Gmail, you need to create an app password in your Google account and then set up the email importer in your Yandex account.

  1. Log in to your Google account.

  2. Under How you sign in to Google, find the 2-Step Verification row. If it's off, turn it on. To do this, tap anywhere in the row and follow the prompts.

  3. After you turn on two-factor authentication, go to the App passwords page.

  4. Enter a name that will help you remember where the app password should be used. For example, "For email import".

  5. Tap Create. A 16-digit password will appear. Copy it or save it somewhere safe.

    Note

Google displays passwords with spaces after every four characters. Delete those spaces before you use your password. For example, instead of vvrp ylwk gkhh jymz, use vvrpylwkgkhhjymz.

  6. Click Done.

  7. Open the Yandex Mail app and go to Settings.

  8. Choose the mailbox to which you want to import messages.

    • POP3 is for cases where your email service can use only POP to transmit messages.
The Port and Server fields will be populated automatically.

Functionality of imported emails

All features of standard mail apply to collected emails as well, but there are caviats:

Deleting messages

If you delete an imported email, it will only be erased from the recipient mailbox. It will not be deleted from the mailbox it was originally sent to.

Mail processing rules

Filters only apply to email in your Inbox.

Blacklist

Blacklisting doesn't work for messages you imported from another mailbox. To block unwanted messages, blacklist the senders in the email service where you created the source mailbox, not in Yandex Mail.
