Syncing contacts in desktop email clients

If you manage emails in an email client installed on your computer, you can sync the email client's address book with the Yandex Mail contacts.

Below are the general steps for setting up contact sync (the interface of your email client may look different):

  1. Create a new address book in your email client, selecting CardDAV as the book type.

  2. Specify the following for the address book:

    • Username: your_username@yandex.ru
    • Server address: carddav.yandex.ru
  3. To log in, enter the app password that you created when setting up the email client.

    Note

If you can't remember your app password, delete it from the App passwords page in Yandex ID and create a new one.

  4. In the properties of your address book, set the syncing parameters (such as frequency) if they're available in your email client.

Some contacts have disappeared from a synced address book

Previously, Yandex Mail synced contacts were all placed into a single address book. Now, they're divided into separate books to make finding contacts easier. Legacy address books have been converted to personal ones. Shared organization contacts have been removed from them.

To restore your contacts, remove the legacy address book from your email client and sync your contacts again.

Searching for contacts

Use the integrated search, which supports direct and reverse transliteration of names and surnames, to quickly find a contact in your address book. For example, to search for “Bill the Lizard”, you can start typing the name using either the Latin “B” or the Cyrillic “Б”.

When composing a message, if you enter the first letters of a name, surname, or email addresses in the To field, you will see a list of matching contacts in pop-up messages. The contacts you recently sent messages to are listed first.

Contact card

To view additional information about a contact, left-click the sender's address when reading messages.

You can add a phone number, date of birth, or comment by clicking Edit in the contact's card.

From the contact card, you can also view all messages you received from this sender, create a rule for all similar messages, or send the address to the blacklist.

You can view information about each contact in their contact card. To view it, tap the contact's name in the address book or on the email reading page.

You can use the contact card to:

  • View your email history.
  • Search emails by attachments, folder, date, sender, recipient, content, or other filters.
  • Create a new message quickly.
  • Make an appointment in Yandex Calendar.
  • Start a chat in Yandex Messenger (only for companies).
  • Call the sender on their specified phone number.
