Requirements for placing video ad units

This section describes the technical requirements that partners must meet when placing video ad units.

General requirements

  1. Your resource must comply with the Yandex Advertising Network requirements for video partners, which include:

    • Resource traffic of at least 10,000 daily users in Russia.

    • The video content placed on the resource must be:

      • Legal and licensed.
      • Unique and presented in a multimedia format.
      • Consistent with the needs and interests of the site's target audience and relevant to the ad placement's content and topic.

    Content that is generated from images, text, looped clips, or stock videos isn't considered video content. InStream ads can't be shown in a player without video content.

  2. All sites that host the partner's player must be listed as mirrors of the video resource. Otherwise, the display of video ads in the partner's player may be suspended.

  3. Video content shown in the player must be at least two minutes long. For social media platforms, the content duration isn't regulated.

  4. The maximum number of ads within an ad unit depends on the content duration:

    • Over 10 minutes: 4 video ads.
    • Under 10 minutes: 2 video ads.

    To serve a larger number of ads, you need explicit approval from Yandex.

Technical requirements

  1. The request body must contain real referrers.

  2. The minimum allowed player size is 320 × 180 or 180 × 320 px. Impressions in smaller players aren't counted. If, for whatever reason, a player's dimensions can't be determined, impressions for that player won't be counted.

  3. The majority of user traffic must be directed to the HTML5 player.

  4. It is prohibited to place RTB ad units within or on top of the video content player.

  5. It is prohibited to overlap the ad or render other elements on top of the ad video.

  6. It is prohibited to render ads on top of third-party content players.

  7. Recursively calling the video ad unit tag is prohibited.

  8. It is prohibited to place the Yandex Advertising Network ad unit tag (both for ad units directly from Yandex Advertising Network and those integrated from Adfox):

    • Inside the code of other banner platforms (such as Ad Manager or AdRiver).
    • Using other JS code, callback or postMessage functions, code substitution, and so on.
  9. The video content player must be positioned within the site content without overlapping other page content.

Traffic quality requirements

Yandex audits traffic quality and checks resources for bot usage at least once a month.

Traffic must meet the following quality requirements:

  1. The share of demographic targeting not defined by Crypta must not exceed 30%.

  2. Ad viewability requirements:

    • Actual InStream ad viewability: At least 60% (at least 50% of the player must be within the viewable area for at least 2 seconds).
    • Viewability rate: At least 60% (ratio of counted impressions to the number of successfully served impressions).
    • InPage video viewability: At least 30% (ratio of counted impressions to the number of successfully served impressions).
  3. Video view-through rate: At least 70%.

  4. Minimum CTR: 0.5%.

  5. There should be no other players with active videos within the viewable area (including players that follow the user as they scroll the page or are fixed in place).
